The course was designed by Marty Johnson. Bay Hills first opened for play in 1972.
Bay Hills Golf Club sits on rolling hills that overlook the Platte and Missouri River valleys. The course has many trees lining its fairways. The fairways are narrow, and the small greens are fast. Lakes and creeks come into play on nine holes. The course affords one-of-a-kind views of the river and nearby countryside. From the 3rd tee, you have a great view of the Platte River. On the 16th hole, you are likely to see deer, turkey, fox and other inhabitants crossing the fairway.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,368 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 4,923 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 6, a par-5 that plays to 544 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 7, a par-3 that plays to 161 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 5, a 385 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 11, a 176 yard par-3.
The signature hole is #12, a 330-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot over a severe swale, then an approach shot over water to a double-tiered green.
